We Are Like Flowers
A poem composed by Emily (Year 9)
We are like flowers,
An unmistakable beauty,
Cut down by the world in which we live,
Drowned,
By the tears that fall from our skies and leave us,
Beaten and bruised,
Unaware of what is,
but only what could have been.
Our individuality blossoms into an array of colours,
Our promise to the world is our identity,
That we will flourish into selfless,
tenacious people.
That we are willing to store our faith in others.
We will grow like leaves of wispy trees,
swaying in the early morning breeze.
Only to be chopped down and abandoned like useless waste.
We are like flowers,
A symbol of hope,
freedom and loss.
A sign of times, good and bad.
We close our buds in times of despair,
And wait for a saving soul,
To collect our withered petals.
We give life to the world around us,
We are the light in a dark room.
Our lives are all different,
But we are forever connected.
We are all different,
In so many ways,
But without our unique identities,
We would live in an empty field.
Because, We are like flowers.
